BASF seeking apprentices for “earn and learn” program in Whitehouse

WHITEHOUSE, OH, November 1, 2021 – BASF is seeking applicants for a new apprenticeship program at its Whitehouse, Ohio facility. The program is part of the company’s North American Apprenticeship Development Program (NAADP), the mission of which is to develop a pipeline to meet future talent needs for a skilled and diverse technician workforce with an emphasis on attracting more females to these roles.

“Our new apprenticeship program offers opportunities for local residents to pursue a rewarding career in a way we haven’t done before,” said Paul Marshall, BASF’s Technical Director in Whitehouse. “We are excited to continue to invest in this community, where we have operated for nearly 50 years.”

The apprenticeship program in Ohio pays apprentices a full-time wage to participate in on-the-job training to become Applications Technicians or Laboratory Technicians. Apprentices will also earn an associate of science degree in Chemistry Concentration from Owens Community College during the program. In addition to paying a competitive wage, BASF offers benefits and covers the cost of tuition, books and fees associated with the certificate program. At the end of the program, apprentices have the skills and credentials to be placed in permanent positions.

“The ideal candidate for our apprenticeship program is one who has a passion to learn and grow, with the motivation, dedication and drive to succeed,” said Dr. Susan Emmerich, BASF’s NAADP Project Implementation Manager. “No manufacturing experience is necessary to be considered for the program, but an innate curiosity to understand the way things work, desire to work collaboratively, and willingness to learn from experienced technicians are the foundation for success.”

BASF’s site in Whitehouse is the Coatings Technical Support Center and provides a wide range of research and development, technical, and customer support services for BASF coatings business groups. The site is BASF’s Global Color Center of Excellence for Automotive Refinish with more than 6,000 new colors developed each year and works closely with other BASF labs around the world to develop new and unique refinish paint product offerings. The Whitehouse site is a Certified Gold Wildlife Habitat Council Site and supports numerous community initiatives.
