BASF donates more than 1,100 gallons of hand sanitizer to fight COVID-19 in Texas

AUSTIN, TX, May 6, 2020 – BASF Corporation is providing the state of Texas with 1,100 gallons of hand sanitizer manufactured at the company’s facilities in Wyandotte, Michigan and Washington, New Jersey free of charge. The sanitizing product will help meet the increased demands needed to safely combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

“When we learned of the supply shortage of disinfectants in Texas, we wanted to help,” said Chris Witte, Senior Vice President and Freeport Site General Manager, BASF North America. “Texas is home to thirteen BASF sites with more than 3,200 employees, so we are pleased our hand sanitizer will help the front-line workers fighting COVID-19 in our communities.”

BASF provided the Texas Department of Emergency Management with approximately 800 gallons of the hand sanitizer. “I thank BASF for their generosity and their commitment to helping the people of Texas throughout this challenging time,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “The State of Texas will continue to work closely with our private sector partners to ensure Texans have the resources they need to keep themselves and others healthy. When we work together, we can overcome any challenge.”

The remaining sanitizer will be donated in the Texas communities close to BASF manufacturing sites in Beaumont, Bishop, Freeport, Pasadena and Port Arthur.

BASF is temporarily producing hand sanitizer at its facilities in Wyandotte, Michigan and Washington, New Jersey, and to date the company has produced more than 9,500 gallons of hand sanitizer. It has been donated in New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Texas, Louisiana, Ohio and California.

In recent weeks, BASF has also donated other key supplies such as disinfectants, hand soap, masks, gloves and protective suits in communities across the U.S.
