BASF summer interns gain career experience at Michigan sites

WYANDOTTE, MI, August 13, 2018 – BASF is hosting 58 students from colleges and universities across the United States at their facilities in Southfield and Wyandotte, Michigan as part of the company’s summer internship program.  The three-month program supports BASF’s workforce development efforts and provides the students with a chance to develop valuable work skills and networking experience. The students’ studies include subjects within the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields as well as business, interior design and marketing.

“Internships provide real world experience for students to determine if their career goal is a good fit for them,” said Greg Pflum, Vice President and General Manager of BASF’s Midwest Hub. “At BASF, we want to help students gain insights into their field of study and provide a professional network to help them gain hands-on experience and learn more about BASF.”

Along with practical business experience, students participate in employee resource groups, learn about customer needs, and help with BASF volunteer initiatives in the community.

“Being an intern at BASF has opened my eyes to many new experiences and ideas,” said Samuel Schmondiuk, a student at Michigan State University studying supply chain management. “I’ve come to realize that with this company I am part of something bigger. BASF employees have done an excellent job of making me feel welcomed and I’ve enjoyed every minute working here.”
