BASF hosts 28 college students at Geismar site for summer internship program

GEISMAR, LA, July 9, 2018 – BASF is providing 28 college students the opportunity to spend the summer working as interns at the Geismar site in Louisiana. Selected from universities around the nation, the interns participate in projects that allow them to apply technical skills and knowledge to real-world situations. The three-month internship program is part of BASF’s local workforce development efforts.

“BASF continues to invest in the internship program to support our growing workforce needs in the Gulf Coast Region,” said Tom Yura, BASF Senior Vice President and General Manager at Geismar. “Through this program we are creating a diverse pipeline of talent and providing the opportunity for students to develop professional skills while learning more about BASF in the process.”

In addition to assigned responsibilities at the manufacturing facility in Geismar, the interns also volunteer during several BASF-sponsored events such as “Dreamnight” at the Baton Rouge Zoo for pediatric cancer patients and Volunteer Ascension’s “Special Tuesdays” program for special needs adults in the local area.

“My internship at BASF has been a wonderful experience, allowing me to meet new people, learn more about my chosen field and participate in several community volunteer events,” said Ashley Scardina, Louisiana State University (LSU) mechanical engineering student and BASF intern. “One of my favorite experiences thus far was volunteering at the local zoo to help entertain pediatric cancer patients. Seeing kids smile because of our efforts was the ultimate reward.”
