BASF holiday gift drives support 100 families and children in need
WYANDOTTE, MI, December 14, 2017 – Knowing that families throughout Southeast Michigan may not experience the joy of opening presents on Christmas, BASF employees from Wyandotte and Southfield organized gift drives and teamed up with local organizations to bring the holiday spirit to local children and their families.
Employees at the BASF Wyandotte site donated gifts for 20 families whose children attend Wyandotte public schools. Southfield employees donated presents for 80 children to the Southfield Goodfellows, a non-profit volunteer organization that works to ensure no child is forgotten during the holiday season.
“Families face unexpected hardships such as illness or a sudden job change that can make the holidays difficult, especially for families with young children,” said Catherine Cost, superintendent of Wyandotte Public Schools. “BASF and its employees exemplify holiday spirit by going above and beyond to support families in our community. To see the look of wonder in both children and adults because of BASF’s generosity is heartwarming.”
Iris Thompson, president of the Southfield Goodfellows, added, “For BASF to help 80 children is a tremendous blessing. We would never be able to pull off such a huge event without their support. I’ve seen parents break down in tears when they see the size of the gift bags. Some of these children don’t have coats, socks, or other fall and winter clothing. And instead of asking for toys or games for their children, they just want them to be warm and fed. They shouldn’t have to choose, and together with BASF we do everything we can for them to have both.”
