BASF combats hunger with $19,000 donation to Forgotten Harvest and food drive with Gleaners Community Food Bank
WYANDOTTE, MI, December 12, 2017 – BASF donated $19,000 and employees sorted food for meals for Forgotten Harvest, and they also joined with Gleaners Community Food Bank to collect more than 600 pounds of food to help feed families throughout Southeast Michigan.
Employees at BASF sites across Southeast Michigan contributed to the food drive and employee resource groups in Southfield organized the volunteer effort to sort food for the meal boxes, which will feed more than 14,000 people.
“Food insecurity is a serious problem in communities throughout Southeast Michigan,” said Greg Pflum, Vice President and General Manager of BASF’s Midwest Hub. “Our employees continued their long-standing commitment to fighting hunger by supporting these two organizations dedicated to relieving hunger and food waste in our local communities.”
Kirk Mayes, CEO of Forgotten Harvest, added, “One in six people face hunger in Southeast Michigan. BASF is a long-time generous corporate partner that we have come to depend upon for their significant financial commitment and the wonderful spirit of BASF employees who volunteer their time.”
