BASF site recognized for reducing environmental impact

MAULDIN, SC, May 2, 2016 — BASF’s Mauldin, South Carolina, site has been recognized by AdvanceSC, an initiative that awards grants to South Carolina manufacturers using energy saving applications. The site received the distinction for reducing its energy consumption through modifications to its heating process.

Production processes at BASF’s Mauldin plant previously relied on steam. Recently, the plant replaced the steam process with a tempered water process. By making this change, BASF reduced its environmental footprint by consuming less energy to heat the water to a lower temperature.

“We are committed to continually reducing our environmental impact,” said Neville Lockwood, Manager of BASF’s Mauldin and White Stone sites. “By improving our production processes to use less energy, we continue that commitment. At the same time we become more efficient as a company.”

AdvanceSC awarded BASF Mauldin with a manufacturing competitiveness grant for their efforts, valued at $15,000. The manufacturing competitiveness grant was also a key component of BASF’s Business Black Box Green Award, an award given by a South Carolina business magazine in February naming BASF as one of the greenest companies in the region.
