- BASF collaborates with MARDI to help reach national rice self-sufficiency level
- Award winning Clearfield® Production System comes from a decade of research & development in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – December 12, 2016 – BASF Malaysia received the Malaysian Entrepreneurship, Research and Business Partnership Award 2016, presented by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, at the Malaysian Commercialization Year Summit 2016 and Global Entrepreneurship Community Summit 2016 event. This event was organised at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and funded by the Ministry of Finance.
The award was presented to BASF Malaysia and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) under the Research & Business Partnership category, in recognition of the strong collaboration between the two companies in the development and commercialization of special rice varieties. The main goal of this collaboration is to use an innovative solution, the Clearfield® Production System, to help the country achieve self-sufficiency level for rice production by effectively combatting tough grasses and controling “weedy rice” (padi angin) – major issues in many of Malaysia’s granary areas.
Following almost a decade of research & development, BASF Malaysia and MARDI introduced the Clearfield Production System into the market in 2010. The BASF-MARDI Clearfield variety commercialization project was named as the winner from more than 200 projects across more than 30 agencies in the country.
