BASF production site in Ulsan, Korea achieves 20th consecutive safety target
- Zero lost time injuries goal achieved 20 times, for a total of 6,781 consecutive safe working days
- Active participation of employees and partners in “CARE+ Safety Campaign”
Seoul – April 3, 2019 – BASF’s site in Ulsan, Korea has continuously operated with zero lost time injuries from August 29, 2000 to March 24, 2019, thus meeting its 20th consecutive successful safety target and achieving a total of 6,781 safe working days. This milestone reaffirms the company’s commitment to safety and demonstrates the effectiveness of its safety management system.
In the year 2000, BASF’s site in Ulsan voluntarily joined the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency (KOSHA)’s “accident-free campaign”. Through this campaign, companies that achieve the safety goals set by KOSHA will receive a certificate of approval. BASF’s chemicals site in Ulsan, one of the company’s eight large-scale production sites in Korea, has set a record of reaching its zero lost time injuries goal 20 times.
BASF has achieved this milestone with the help of its stringent corporate policies for safety, health and environmental protection, including comprehensive efforts to minimize risks across the entire process, including in the manufacture, transport, use and disposal of products.
The Ulsan site has also actively participated in BASF’s global safety culture program, “CARE+ Safety Campaign,” an initiative to promote safety awareness and emergency response capabilities among employees and partners.
“This achievement is the result of concerted efforts between the company, employees and partners in raising safety awareness under a systematic safety management framework,” said Yoo Sun-jung, Site Manager, Ulsan site, BASF Korea.
“Safety remains the top priority for us. We value the health and safety of people above all else,” added Kim Young-yull, Managing Director of BASF Korea. “We will continue to drive improvements in the safety culture and working environment for our employees.”
BASF also has demonstrated its safety excellence at other sites in Korea. Kolon BASF innoPOM, a joint venture between BASF and Kolon Plastics, completed its entire 27 month construction period without any injuries. Kolon BASF innoPOM started commercial production in October 2018.
