Fresh salmon packed with Styropor® Ccycled™: The world’s first EPS fish boxes based on chemically recycled plastics introduced in Norway
Fresh fish and ChemCycling™: How does this go together? In a joint project, three companies have demonstrated how it works: BASF as raw material supplier for EPS, VARTDAL PLAST, who converts the beads into filet fish boxes and Bremnes Seashore that uses the boxes for the transport of some of its high-quality salmon brand BÖMLO® as of Christmas 2021.
With its innovative processes and products, the chemical industry makes an important contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. BASF researchers are already contributing to making the sustainability transformation possible through their work. Current innovation examples from BASF’s research pipeline for mobility and agriculture, were presented today at the company’s Research Press Conference by Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner, Member of the Board of Executive Directors and Chief Technology Officer of BASF SE, along with BASF scientists.
The non-profit organization CDP has again ranked BASF as one of the world's leading companies for its measures and transparent reporting on water and forest management as well as climate protection. BASF achieved an A- rating in all three categories, meeting more stringent requirements for climate leadership.
Farmers are doing the biggest job on earth to feed an ever-growing population while also having to balance the effects of climate change and the demands of a changing world. Carbon farming is seen as a solution to mitigate climate change by promoting practices that avoid releasing greenhouse gases into the atmosphere as well as those that sequester carbon. Kasey Bamberger, a farmer from Ohio (USA), explains her experiences with a few of these practices that promote soil health and keep carbon in the soil.
With agriculture being responsible for about 20% of global CO2 emissions, carbon-efficient agricultural practices can significantly contribute to combat climate change. BASF will establish a program that allows farmers to track and profit from practices reducing CO2 emissions, underlining its efforts to contribute to fighting climate change.
