Whether filter coffee, espresso, cappuccino, or latte macchiato – coffee is many people’s drink of choice. And the trend is toward brewing single cups quickly and conveniently, at the touch of a button. So it’s not surprising that coffee from pads and capsules is booming.

To meet the growing demand, BASF offer two types of coffee capsules out of high performance materials: Ultradur® B1520 FC and ecovio® IA 1652. Due to the materials’ high stiffness, both types of products are idea for the use in thin wall coffee capsules. This is a prerequisite for economic and ecological production. Furthermore, both capsules show thermal stability and chemical resistance.

Moreover, every material has its own additional benefits. It’s up to you to choose!

Ultradur® B1520 FC

Ultradur^® B1520 FC is a specially developed high flowability PBT for packaging applications. It is the product of choice when it comes to single layer aroma sealed packaging. The well-balanced barrier properties against moisture and oxygen make a secondary packaging redundant. Thus, the new capsules out of Ultradur® B1520 FC have great advantages compared to other injection-molded or multilayered thermoformed capsules.

ecovio^® IA 1652

ecovio^® is a high-quality and versatile biopolymer of BASF. The material’s primary advantages are its certified compostability and its bio-based composition. Thus, with coffee capsules out of ecovio® IA 1652 the capsules and coffee grounds can be composted together with its packaging - a huge advance compared to conventional coffee capsules!
