BASF hosted 25 engineering students at Louisiana sites for summer internship program
GEISMAR, LA, July 31, 2017 – BASF provided 25 engineering students the opportunity to spend the summer working as interns at its Geismar, North Geismar and Zachary sites in Louisiana.
The interns, selected from universities around the nation, participated in engineering projects that allowed them to apply technical skills and knowledge to real-world situations. The three-month program is part of BASF’s local workforce development efforts.
“There is a strong need to retain and grow our highly-skilled technical workforce in the Gulf Coast region” said Tom Yura, BASF Senior Vice President and Geismar Site Manager. “By investing in our internship program, we are successfully attracting potential employees and giving them the opportunity to grow their skills while learning more about BASF in the process.”
The interns also participated in a couple of BASF’s community activities. They volunteered time to support Dream Night at the Baton Rouge Zoo, a free event for young cancer patients, and Volunteer Ascension’s Special Tuesdays, a program serving special needs children in the local area.
“I’ve enjoyed my time working for BASF because I get to work on a variety of projects, meet new people and give back to the community,” said KarLee Primeaux, chemical engineering intern at BASF’s Geismar site. “I volunteered with other BASF employees at Dream Night at the Baton Rouge Zoo. It was so fulfilling to interact with the children and see them laugh and smile.”
