Your start as a trainee lawyer

We consider starting as a trainee lawyer to be the perfect opportunity for both of us to get to know each other – many of our colleagues also got their first glimpse into BASF air in this way.

Within the legal preparatory service we offer you the opportunity to acquire valuable practical experience in BASF at several German locations during your legal training period.
You will be working on issues from the following areas

General business law
Public law with a focus on the environment
Individual and collective labor law
Competition and cartel law

Your start in the central legal department

As legal counsel you will support the operational business divisions and functional units of the BASF Group with a high degree of personal responsibility and decision-making expertise in all legal matters of an international DAX Group with over 370 production locations worldwide. The focus of activities includes the compilation of national and international contracts, the assessment of a broad range of company matters which could relate to competition law, corporate law, legal approvals and general business law, involvement in M&A transactions plus the handling of governance and compliance issues. You will operate as a competent business partner and will ensure compliance with legal framework conditions. Your contact partners will come from different levels of the company. You will report directly to a team leader with global responsibility.

Your start in industrial property law

We are very inventive. Worldwide BASF Group registers over 1,000 patents per year, making us one of the most innovative companies in the world. The global intellectual property unit has the central control responsibility for securing the intellectual property of the entire BASF Group.

Examples of your tasks will include:

The legal protection of BASF innovations through patents of new or improved products and procedures.
The defense of the "good name" of BASF products through trademarks.
The resistance of infringing patents and trademarks from our competitors.
The granting and acquisition of patent rights.
The creation of license agreements for trademarks and know-how.
The legal framework for research collaboration with companies and universities through cooperative agreements.
