How to become a part of our Research community?

As a chemistry student you have the opportunity to learn more about our research through an internship or a final year thesis. This way you can gather your first practical experiences in an international company. During your internship you will get to know a whole lot more about BASF and our research.

What we are looking for

You are a chemist with a focus on organic, inorganic, macromolecular, technical, physical or analytical chemistry, food chemistry or biochemistry and have not yet finished your university studies.

You are open to everything that's new and enjoy scientific and technical challenges which you approach with purpose and solve with your own creative ideas. An experienced colleague will be there to support you. You enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team and are also accustomed to communicating in English.

Spend 3 to 6 months with us and conduct research on a current topic alongside our experts.

Internships are possible in one of the three global research areas of Advanced Materials & Systems Research, Process Research & Chemical Engineering and Bioscience Research.

In your internship you will be working independently on a specific research project. Your development will be "on the job" in a committed, competent team and under the guidance of an experienced employee.

Good to know: the areas offered for internships, Bachelor's or Master's theses are as multifaceted as our research fields.

Which responsibilities can you expect?

During your internship you will work in a committed team, for instance on

Synthesis and development of new substances for crop protection, polymers or catalysts.
New processes for the manufacture of base chemicals, intermediates, plastics or active substances.
Biocatalysis and biotechnological procedures for the manufacture of fine chemicals.
Research and development in agronomy.
Use and development of analytical methods in analytics and polymer physics.
