Industry

Climate protection is a central component of the BASF strategy. For many years, the company has been continuously reducing its CO2 emissions. For further significant reduction innovative processes, such as the synthesis gas direct conversion for the synthesis of olefins, our research is developing. Olefins are intermediate substances, for the production of cleaning materials, aroma chemicals or superabsorbents. New process technologies and catalysts can reduce the carbon footprint of olefin production by up to 50 percent. Lab Team Leader Sabine Schuster and chemical laboratory technician Oliver Secosan are changing the catalysts in the new synthesis gas direct conversion plant.

BASF’s Care Chemicals division publishes its Responsible Sourcing Report for 2024

Ludwigshafen, Germany, March 31, 2025 – BASF’s Care Chemicals operating division today released the third edition of its Responsible Sourcing Report (RSR). The report shows the division’s progress in 2024 in the three pillars of sustainability – economy, environment and society. At the same time, it underscores BASF’s commitment to sustainability, demonstrating the company’s dedication to supporting smallholder farmers and promoting sustainable practices. BASF’s comprehensive sustainability statement can be found in the company’s Annual Report 2024.

Joint News Release: BASF and Forestal collaborate on advanced e-methanol production using OASE® technology

Mugardos, Spain, March 26, 2025 — BASF and Forestal de Atlántico S.A. (Forestal) have signed an early disclosure agreement (EDA) aimed at advancing the production of e-methanol (eMeOH) through carbon capture solutions. Under this strategic partnership, BASF has been selected to share its proprietary OASE^® blue technology, designed for the efficient removal of CO₂ from flue gases, for use in Forestal’s pioneering Triskelion project in Galicia, Spain.

BASF sells share in Nordlicht wind farms back to Vattenfall and secures access to long-term supply of renewable electricity

To align the company’s green power supply and demand, BASF is streamlining its current portfolio of renewable power projects. Accordingly, BASF has decided to sell its 49 percent equity share in the Nordlicht 1 and 2 wind farms back to Vattenfall. In parallel, BASF continues the collaboration with Vattenfall by securing a long-term supply of renewable power for BASF’s chemical production in Europe – at a time when such additional supply will be needed.

BASF Coatings increases production capacities in Caojing, China to meet growing Automotive demand in Asia Pacific

Shanghai, China - March 24, 2025 - BASF’s Coatings division has successfully expanded its production capacity for polyester and polyurethane resin at its Caojing plant in Shanghai, China. Originally established in 2015 with an annual capacity of 8,000 metric tons of polyester and polyurethane resin, the plant has now increased its capacity to 18,800 metric tons per year — a more than twofold increase.
