A Vision for Collective Action – BASF Coatings’ Sustainability Future Target Picture

  • Launch to drive vision-led sustainable action in the industry
  • Six focus areas for responsible and circular practices
  • Presentation at Hannover Messe and Innovation Roundtable in Bergamo, Italy

As a leading supplier of global surface solutions with a clear vision for the future, BASF Coatings is implementing its Sustainability Future Target Picture. This target picture represents an important cornerstone of the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation. The visionary framework is designed to inspire optimism and collective action among stakeholders, emphasizing that small, individual contributions can collectively create a significant impact on our future.

Rather than perceiving the challenges of the industry’s sustainable transformation as hurdles, BASF Coatings is actively embracing the opportunity to take leadership and action. With its Sustainability Future Target Picture, the company aims to foster dialogue, discussion, and collaboration to encourage other industry players to also create their own visions for a sustainable future. For this, BASF Coatings illustrates how its current initiatives are integral to achieving this vision and is empowered to take confident steps toward a sustainable future.

“Our Sustainability Future Target Picture is not just a concept; it’s a call to action for everyone in the industry,” says Dr. Katharina Fechtner, Sustainability and Innovation Manager at BASF Coatings. “We believe that together, we can create a desirable, sustainable future.”

Transforming Vision into Value-Creating Action

The Sustainability Future Target Picture is structured around six key categories and fields of action aimed at driving value and innovation:

Know the Impact: Through access to high-quality sustainability data, BASF Coatings enables its employees and customers to make informed and responsible decisions that positively impact the environment.

Energy Organism: BASF Coatings is committed to an intelligent energy system that prioritizes sustainable sources while minimizing overall energy consumption to ensure operational efficiency.

Simplify It: BASF Coatings examines which products and processes can be simplified to achieve maximum impact with minimal use of fossil resources, focusing on efficiency and sustainability in every aspect of production.

Close the Loops: BASF Coatings anticipates how value chains can be transformed by designing durable products that can be recycled and disassembled. This enables a circular economy and helps reduce waste.

Think Service: BASF Coatings aims to decouple economic growth from resource consumption by applying new service models that promote sustainability while driving business success.

A New World: BASF Coatings contributes to sustainable transformation by developing innovative surface functionalities that go beyond protection and decoration, enhancing the environmental performance of coatings.

BASF Coatings is committed to empowering change for a sustainable today and tomorrow, leading the way in sustainability within the coatings industry. By sharing the Sustainability Future Target Picture, the company also aims to inspire others to take action and contribute to a sustainable, desirable future.

Jointly Crafting a Sustainable Future

After the internal rollout, BASF Coatings is now presenting this inspiring vision to the public and the industry. Dr. Katharina Fechtner will present the Sustainability Future Target Picture at Hannover Messe (April 1), where she will highlight its significance and implications for the automotive industry. Additionally, she will engage with participants at an Innovation Roundtable in Bergamo, Italy (June 17), promoting dialogue and collaboration on sustainable practices and innovation.
