BASF celebrates 30 years of success and impact in Vietnam
Join us as we flashback our three decades with remarkable milestones contributing not just to the booming economy but also to sustainability, innovation, and social engagement for a better and more sustainable future. In Vietnam. With Vietnam.
BASF Vietnam moves to certified sustainable office building Deutsches Haus, coinciding with our 30th anniversary!
This marks a significant milestone as we embrace the 'Future of Work’ (FOW) approach, prioritize sustainability, and celebrate our 30th anniversary. More than just a premise where design meets sustainability, this allows us to collaborate, innovate and grow our business sustainably in this important market.
Featuring BASF's FOW approach, our new office enables collaborative and flexible work arrangements. The dynamic setting facilitates open communication and effective teamwork while enhancing safety and productivity. The office features modern elements, including ergonomic designs, dynamic desk-sharing, natural lighting, ventilation, and indoor air quality and noise level monitoring. Open workspaces such as collaboration areas, phone booths, quiet rooms, and a work café are specially tailored to support flexible and inspiring work arrangements, fostering creativity and teamwork among employees.
An iconic building in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City with double LEED Platinium certifications, the highest rating for sustainability in construction and building management, Deutsches Haus (DH) symbolizes the strategic partnership and friendship between Vietnam and Germany and serves as a hub for European companies. As a global chemical company headquartered in Germany, BASF sees this office building as a prime location to connect with like-minded partners, exchange business opportunities, and drive sustainability in Vietnam.
By moving to a LEED Platinum building and designing the office to meet LEED standards, we demonstrate our leadership and commitment to sustainability. A range of sustainable products are used in the office including fire protection and sound absorption panels made from BASF’s resin foam Basotect®, low odor and low volatile organic compounds (VOC) paints with BASF’s Acronal® ECO dispersion, and non-phthalate plasticizer Hexamoll® DINCH for carpets. Furthermore, BASF continues to strengthen ‘green’ habits among employees through waste segregation, single-use plastics restriction, and digitalization to minimize paper consumption.

Celebrating 30 years in Vietnam: Shaping a better tomorrow through the power of education
At BASF, we want to make a positive and lasting impact on society and the environment. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary in Vietnam, we are proud to align this key milestone with our long-term strategy of supporting the country's education development. With a firm belief in the power of education to shape a brighter future, we have taken our programs to new heights by collaborating with our long-standing partners to nurture the next generation of Vietnamese leaders.
Building outdoor playgrounds: connecting children with nature
In August, BASF Vietnam and the co-sponsors, in collaboration with the Social Enterprise Think Playgrounds (TPG), successfully implemented the 8th playground project in Vietnam, supporting over 200 visually impaired students at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Special School in Ho Chi Minh City, facilitating their development and integration through learning and playing.
This newest facility held a special significance for us as it is our first inclusive playground designed for children with special needs, prioritizing comfort and safety. In line with BASF's commitment to sustainability, the playground was built using environment-friendly and child-safe materials, including responsibly sourced eucalyptus wood. Additionally, volunteers from BASF and our partners carefully installed and decorated the play equipment.
Commemorating its 30th anniversary, BASF Vietnam expanded this program by engaging our longstanding distribution partners, including Kien Vuong, Nagase Vietnam, F.D&C, and Viet Duc Lubricants & Chemicals. Together, we share the vision of contributing to Vietnam's sustainable development and making a positive impact on local communities.

Renovating schools in remote areas, enhancing access to education
Collaborating with co-sponsors, we have broken ground on a new school building project at Phuong Ninh Primary and Secondary School, located in the remote Phung Hiep District of Hau Giang province, Vietnam. The project aims to provide an improved educational experience with four new classrooms covering a total area of 256 m², along with a spacious 1,000 m² playground. Once completed in the first quarter of 2025, this will benefit approximately 120-150 students aged 6-15 annually.
Erick Contreras, Managing Director, BASF Vietnam, said: “At BASF, we support the United Nation’s sustainable development goal of providing quality education to the community. Offering the next generation the best start in life with safer and more comfortable learning facilities is one of our social engagement priorities.”
The facility was refurbished with Green Label Certified products sponsored by Nippon Paint Vietnam. These products, made from sustainable raw materials from BASF, will ensure long-term benefits on health, safety, and energy efficiency.
Since 2015, BASF Vietnam has collaborated with its longstanding distributors, including MKVN Chemicals, Sam Chem Sphere, Tam Tran Co., Viet Duc Lubricants & Chemicals, Hexachem, and the non-government organization Saigon Children’s Charity. We have successfully renovated eight schools in An Giang, Hau Giang, and Tra Vinh provinces. In addition to constructing new classrooms, the program has also upgraded facilities such as toilets, playgrounds, and fences, creating an enjoyable learning environment for the children.

BASF showcases Made-in-Germany chemistry innovations to support Vietnam’s green transition
BASF once again joined the above high level event by the Ministry of Trade & Industry and EuroCham Vietnam to foster collaboration, share cutting-edge expertise, and drive technology transfers towards a resilient and sustainable Vietnamese economy. This year, we joined forces with other top-notch companies in the German National Paviilion to showcase products and solutions under the ‘Made in Germany’ brand and how those innovations create positive impact on Vietnam’s sustainable future.
As a world’s leading chemical company, BASF introduced a range of global and local initiatives and a suite of chemistry solutions designed to support Vietnam’s green transition. For example, solutions for different plastic mechanical recycling difficulties, contributing to the country‘s efforts to better use plastics and respond to plastic waste challenges; or a comprehensive porfolio to support Vietnam’s sustainable food and nutrition - from farm to table. Especially, we delivered a keynote presentation on “Designed for circular economy – How do we make products circular”, sharing our efforts to drive circularity in products and processes.
This is not just one of our key activities in the anniversary year, but also shows our leadership role in sustainability and our long-term commitments to support Vietnam‘s green growth targets, through innovations and partnerships. Now and beyond.
