Human Rights Advisory Council

In order to systematically integrate external expertise, BASF established a Human Rights Advisory Council in 2020, in which independent and international human rights experts advise BASF.

The Human Rights Advisory Council promotes a constructive exchange on human rights, helps us to better understand different perspectives and address conflicting goals. In addition, the Council promotes the development of our human rights-related strengths as well as the potential for improvement.

BASF’s Chief Compliance Officer chairs the Council. Representatives from Corporate Sustainability, Corporate Compliance and Legal participate in the meetings. Depending on the issues on the agenda, additional representatives from e.g. Operating Divisions and Procurement attend the meetings.

Our external members include:

Prof. Dr. Birgit Spießhofer
Europe Chief Sustainability & Governance Counsel, Dentons and Professor at the University of Bremen
