Corporate carbon footprint

BASF has published a comprehensive corporate carbon footprint since 2008, the only industrial enterprise worldwide to do so.

Product Carbon Footprint

BASF already offers thousands of products with reduced or even zero carbon footprint (PCF) in its broad portfolio.

Product Carbon Footprint of Raw Materials

In our Supplier CO₂ Management Program, we aim to achieve transparency on the product-related CO₂ emissions of our purchased raw materials. We offer our support and share our knowledge on Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) valuation methodologies and tools with our suppliers. In the improvement phase, we will jointly identify levers and targets with our suppliers to reduce these GHG emissions.

Circular Economy

Another key contribution in our development, innovation and production work is thinking in terms of the circular economy: reuse, recycling, etc.

Climate Protection

As an energy-intensive company, we are committed to the efficient use of energy and global climate protection and support the Paris Climate Agreement. We pursue the goal of climate neutrality and promote low-emission chemistry to enable the green transformation of our customers.

Product Responsibility

Eco-Efficiency Analysis

The purpose of Eco-Efficiency Analysis is to harmonize economy and ecology. This involves carrying out an overall study of alternative solutions to include a total cost determination and the calculation of ecological impact over the entire life cycle.

Responsible handling of plastics

BASF supports the Alliance against Plastic Waste in the Environment initiative as a founding member because a joint effort by companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations and civil society is needed to meet the global challenge of plastic waste in the environment.
