Chemetall strengthens its commitment to environmental protection with emission-neutral technologies

March 12, 2021

The Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF's Coatings division, which operates under the Chemetall brand, is part of the NOCARBforging 2050 initiative, setting itself the goal of contributing to climate-neutral industrial production in metal forming by 2050 with innovative technologies for cold forming.

With the NOCARBforging 2050 initiative, Chemetall contributes to the reduction of CO₂ emissions with climate-friendly technologies.

The mission of this key project, which is based on the so-called “Green Deal” of the EU Commission, is a comprehensive growth strategy for a climate-neutral and resource-conserving economy in order to establish EU-wide greenhouse gas neutrality.

With the NOCARBforging 2050 initiative, Chemetall joins these goals and contributes to the reduction of CO₂ emissions with climate-friendly technologies.

Chemetall takes responsibility for climate protection and focuses on environmentally friendly processes with resource-efficient and innovative technologies for cold forging or even pretreatment of surfaces. In recent years, Chemetall has already developed innovative processes in the field of pretreatment and metal forming that are already in line with these sustainable goals:

“With the latest user-friendly ‘single-dip technology’, pretreatment steps in cold forming can be eliminated and energy consumption significantly reduced. The ‘Single-Dip Process’ is a development of the established Gardomer® technology, which includes a range of unique polymeric lubricants for all types of demanding metal forming operations such as cold heading, tube drawing or cold extrusion,” explains Martin Orben, Global Segment Manager Cold Forming and contact person for these technologies.

Gardomer® products are applied from room temperature to 85°C by spraying or dipping. They can be easily incorporated into existing pretreatment processes and enable excellent forming performance with low friction and fewer residues. These outstanding properties not only enable our customers to implement their processes efficiently, but also to achieve a reduction in CO2 emissions.
