Johannesburg Gauteng, South Africa, 02 June 2022 – The BASF Performance Materials business division in partnership with Technical Finishes, will participate at the Big 5 Construct Southern Africa exhibition taking place from June 07 – 09, 2022. The exhibition is one of the most influential events for Southern Africa’s construction industry.
With an ever-growing population, cities and governments face extreme pressures to ensure city infrastructure not only caters to the needs of the populations, but is also suitably adapted, modern and above all sustainable. “BASF’s latest innovative technology, Elastopave®, helps solves these problems. Elastopave® is a polymer composite which is mixed with gravel or stones. The high proportion of stones of various sizes creates more interconnected voids that allows water to percolate more effectively, meaning greater water-permeability compared to a sealed surface”. said Sunneal Shah, Sales Team Leader at BASF Performance Materials.
Elastopave® is not only suitable for walkaways and drives ways, but also for many applications where crushed stones or gravel need firm bonding and in urban design such as, park surfaces, sidewalks, indoor stone carpeting and outdoor furniture. It is quick and simple to install and requires only simple, readily available equipment. Public spaces paved with Elastopave® can absorb an estimated 4,000 liters of water per hour per square meter.
“BASF together with Technical Finishes has successfully completed 500m2 project at a local primary school, where Elastopave® was installed to transform the playground area of the school. One of the aims of this project was to inspire future leaders, showing them how chemistry benefits the community and how products like Elastopave® provide sustainable paving solutions. With the completion of the project, the children now have a safe, beautiful area to play in”, said Ian Harrison, Managing Director for Technical Finishes.
