BASF’s creative stories showcase safety

To shine a spotlight on safety in the workplace, BASF colleagues together with their family and friends were recently invited to create original and personal content around the theme "Danger never takes a holiday".

As part of the BASF ANZ safety challenge, content could take the form of photos, videos, drawings, animations or poems, with prizes on offer for the most creative entries. The wonderful submissions were then turned into a film that is now featured on safety screens at BASF local offices and sites.

Phil McColl, Regional Business Manager Mining Solutions Asia Pacific & Head of Mining Australia and New Zealand, said “We wanted to ensure that our safety messaging was as personal as possible, so what better way to do that than to involve the people who care most about us reaching home safely at the end of the day. It was great to see the number and quality of entries, I was truly impressed by the creativity that was on show.”

One of the deserving winners was Harriet, who created a photo showcasing the importance of wearing PPE correctly. “I got the idea from talking to my dad about his work and I thought maybe I could use his safety gear,” said Harriet. “I got his shirt and stuffed it with pillows, then I got his hardhat and put the earplugs around it. I set it up to look like a person and put the notebook and goggles in the pocket to complete the photograph. I was pleased when I found out I was one of the winners. I put quite a lot of effort into it so was nice to be rewarded.”

View some of the fantastic entries in the gallery above or on the newly installed safety screens next time you visit a BASF office or site.
