Certified compostable flexible barrier packaging

BASF's ecovio® is an innovative, partly biobased and globally certified compostable biopolymer with a wide range of applications. Products made from ecovio® are just as high-performing and strong in use as conventional plastics. The product properties were designed such that the products only fully biodegrade in compost after use.

Several ecovio®-grades can be processed into compostable multilayer packaging with good barrier properties. These films are suited to a wide range of food packaging applications. They protect food from oxygen and moisture, conserve its aroma and prolong its shelf-life while at the same time offering more end-of-life options as conventional plastics materials. Hereby ecovio® also gives the opportunity to close the biomass cycle by bringing back valuable nutrients into the soil that produced the food it’s conserving.
