BASF reveals new product to unlock hidden nutrients for the animal feed industry

  • Natuphos® E launched for India market
  • Helping poultry better utilize phosphorous and other important nutrients like energy, proteins and minerals

Mumbai, India – January 19, 2016 – Global chemical company, BASF, has launched an exciting new enzyme for animal nutrition, Natuphos® E, in India. Natuphos® E helps poultry to utilize phosphorous and key nutrients more efficiently – bringing a wide range of benefits to the animal feed industry and to local farmers.

As the first company to market a phytase for feed 25 years ago, BASF is once again proud to be setting a new standard in feed phytase technology. Natuphos® E is an enzyme known as phytase, which helps pigs and poultry better utilize phosphorous, other important nutrients such as proteins and calcium as well as energy.

The majority of phosphorous in grains and oilseeds is bound to phytic acid, an anti-nutritive factor found in feed. Phytate-bound phosphorous can hardly be used by animals such as pigs and poultry, and is therefore lost as a potential nutrient and excreted. As a result, manufacturers need to supplement the feed with either inorganic phosphates or very effective phytases to make sure the animals are supplied adequately with the required amounts of the essential mineral phosphorous.

BASF’s animal nutrition expert, Leon Hall, said “BASF introduced the world’s first phytase feed enzyme, Natuphos®, 25 years ago. We are very excited to announce that the next generation technology is here and it has been built on decades of experience. Our new phytase is called Natuphos® E because it’s more efficient, economical and environmentally friendly than its predecessor, which has been the industry gold standard for the last two-and-a-half decades.”

“This novel, hybrid 6-phytase shows excellent stability properties. It withstands the rigors of feed production and handling, and shows excellent efficiency in the animal,” Hall said.

Manufactured by BASF in Germany, Natuphos® E delivers superior pelleting and premix stability in challenging environments and feed-production processes, in addition to a long-term shelf life stability.
