BASF receives top 10 “Sports Surfaces Materials Supplier” award in China

  • BASF’s E-TPU, Infinergy® SP, used on track surfaces and playgrounds enables safer and improved sporting experience

Singapore – September 11, 2019 – BASF has been awarded the Top 10 “Sports Surfaces Materials Supplier” by the Shanghai Chemical Building Material Trade Association (SCBMTA). The award recognizes BASF’s significant contribution towards upgrading industry standards of sports flooring with safer, higher-quality products.

“The award is a testament to the continuous efforts that BASF has made over the past four years in providing safer and higher quality running tracks and playgrounds in China,” said Larsen Kolberg, Head of Business Management, Construction Industry, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF. “By combining BASF’s advanced material expertise with the strong local networks of our partner, DuBaiCheng Environmental Protection Engineering Co., Ltd, we have successfully upgraded new industry regulations and standards and strengthened the collaboration with stakeholders along the value chain.”

BASF’s special grade of expanded thermoplastic polyurethane (E-TPU), Infinergy® SP, is used for sports fields and children’s playgrounds. With the outstanding cushioning effect of E-TPU particles, athletes can enjoy safer sporting experience due to its high rebound performance and excellent impact absorption. Children can also play in a safer environment while lowering the risk of exercise-related injuries.

Over 1200 schools and sports facilities across China have been installed with BASF’s polyurethane-based flooring surfaces. In July, BASF and DBC donated 8,000 square meters of flooring surfaces to a primary school located in Ning'er Hani and Yi Autonomous County in Yunnan, China. The facilities include a new running track and badminton, netball, and basketball courts. In September 2018, a safer playground was also donated to the China Welfare Institute Kindergarten in Shanghai.
