Conceptualized in 2017 in the city of Hyderabad, India; UrbanKisaan has optimized hydroponics technology for use in tropical climates. With only one tenth of the costs, the proprietary technology is significantly more efficient than conventional global standards in hydroponics cultivation. The company operates several suburban greenhouses and vertical indoor farms in India and sells the fresh produce, some of which is grown directly in the shops, in its franchise-owned brick-and-mortar stores and via an app and website.

UrbanKisaan continues to optimize and widen the scope of its proprietary technology to cover an increasing range of vegetables and greens on its mission to provide chemical-free, freshly harvested, and nutritious produce at affordable prices through a transparent supply-chain of sustainable hyperlocal urban farms, neighborhood stores and online channels.
