Vattenfall and BASF sign contract with Vestas for latest 15 MW offshore wind turbines in Germany

Vattenfall and BASF have signed supply and service contracts with Vestas for 112 wind turbines of the type V236-15.0 MW. The state-of-the-art turbines will be used in the Nordlicht 1 and 2 offshore wind projects owned by Vattenfall and BASF in the German North Sea off the island of Borkum. From 2028, they will be able to produce electricity for the equivalent of 1.6 million households. Parts of the wind turbine towers will be fabricated with low-emission steel, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of the towers.

Vattenfall and BASF sign purchase agreement for 49 percent of Germany’s Nordlicht offshore wind farms

Vattenfall and BASF have agreed on the sale of 49 percent of Vattenfall’s Nordlicht 1 and 2 wind farms to BASF. The Nordlicht wind project is being built in the German North Sea without state subsidies and, with a total installed capacity of 1.6  gigawatts, will be the largest offshore wind farm project in realization for Vattenfall to date. Vattenfall is responsible for developing and constructing the Nordlicht sites and intends to use its share of future electricity generation to supply customers in Germany with fossil-free electricity. BASF will use its 49 percent share of electricity to supply its chemical production sites in Europe, especially in Ludwigshafen.

Vattenfall and BASF to partner on German offshore wind farms Nordlicht 1 and 2

Vattenfall and BASF are in advanced and exclusive discussions to partner on the Nordlicht 1 and 2 projects through a sale of 49% of the project shares to BASF. Both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formally express their joint ambition. Vattenfall will use its share of the fossil free electricity to supply its German customers. BASF will receive almost half of the produced electricity and supply its chemical production sites across Europe, in particular Ludwigshafen.

Joint News Release - Offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust Zuid inaugurated

Today, Dutch King Willem-Alexander jointly with board members of Vattenfall, BASF, and Allianz officially inaugurated the offshore wind farm Hollandse Kust Zuid 1-4. The wind farm is in the North Sea, 18-36 kilometers off the Dutch coast between the towns of Scheveningen and Zandvoort.  The 139 turbines have a total capacity of 1.5 GW, making it one of the largest offshore wind farms in the world.

BASF enters power agreements for clean energy supply of more than 20 BASF sites across the United States

BASF is committed to renewable energy solutions to power its sites across the United States and has entered into virtual power purchase agreements (VPPAs) for wind and solar power totaling 250 megawatts (MW). They are designed to offset the carbon-intensive grid-supplied electricity being used at more than 20 of BASF’s manufacturing sites in several states across the country, from Texas to Michigan.
