Who we are
1877 / First Foreign Production
BASF sets up its first production site outside Germany in Butirki near Moscow, Russia, in 1877 and in Neuville Neuville-sur-Saône, France, in 1878. However, BASF decides to produce overseas only as an exception during the 19th and early 20th century and only if customs or patent provisions make this unavoidable. On the contrary, BASF is export-oriented from the beginning, selling its products world-wide. To do this, it operates a network of representatives, agencies and its own sales offices around the globe.
