Who we are

From annual report to integrated sustainability reporting

Alongside the traditional format for the annual report, the company introduced the social report and then the environment report. This was the beginning of the integrated sustainability reporting used at BASF today. BASF repeatedly took on a pioneering role here.

Against the backdrop of changing social framework conditions, from the 1970s at the latest companies were no longer solely judged by their economic performance. BASF introduced new reporting formats to meet the resulting requirements of stakeholders regarding information from the areas of HR, social commitment and the environment.

Take a look at the “first editions” of the respective reporting formats!

Social Report (1973-1999)
In 1973, BASF launched a special publication to inform its employees about the most important developments and results from the previous year. Under the title “Menschen Arbeit Geschäft” (People, Work, Business), the company reported on business development alongside social and staff-related aspects.
Environment Report (1988-2002)
In 1989, BASF published its first environment report (for the year under review 1988). In doing so, it became one of the first companies worldwide to report on its environmental efforts.
Social Responsibility Report (2000-2002)
With the new format, BASF rounded off its reporting and became one of the first companies to provide end-to-end reporting on sustainability.
Corporate Report (2003-2006)
BASF trod new paths in its sustainability reporting, which was compiled in a single publication for the first time in 2003 with its corporate report.
BASF Report (since 2007)
With the BASF Report for 2007, the company published the first completely integrated depiction of its business activities, thereby taking the lead in sustainability reporting.
