New responsibilities in BASF’s Board of Executive Directors

Following the decisions of the Supervisory Board of BASF SE on December 20, 2023, the individual areas of responsibility in BASF’s Board of Executive Directors will change as follows:

Dr. Stephan Kothrade, member of the Board, will additionally assume responsibility for Group Research and the position as Chief Technology Officer from Melanie Maas-Brunner effective January 1, 2024. He will also be responsible for Greater China; South & East Asia, ASEAN & Australia/New Zealand; and Mega Projects Asia, effective March 1, 2024.

Dr. Katja Scharpwinkel will take over the position of the Industrial Relations Director of BASF SE and, additionally, the responsibility for the region Europe from Stephan Kothrade effective February 1, 2024.

Dr. Dirk Elvermann, member of the Board, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Digital Officer will additionally assume responsibility for BASF Venture Capital GmbH effective January 1, 2024.

The following responsibilities will apply within the Board of Executive Directors effective March 1, 2024:

  • Dr. Martin Brudermüller/Dr. Markus Kamieth (effective at the end of the Annual Shareholders’ Meeting on April 25, 2024), Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Ressort I: Corporate Development; Corporate Legal, Compliance & Insurance; Corporate Human Resources; Corporate Communications & Government Relations; Corporate Investor Relations; Senior Project Net Zero Accelerator
  • Dr. Dirk Elvermann, Chief Financial Officer, Chief Digital Officer, Ressort II: Corporate Finance; Corporate Audit; Corporate Taxes & Duties; Global Business Services; Global Digital Services; Global Procurement; BASF Venture Capital
  • Dr. Katja Scharpwinkel, Industrial Relations Officer, Ressort III: European Site & Verbund Management; Global Engineering Services; Corporate Environmental Protection, Health, Safety & Quality; Europe
  • Dr. Stephan Kothrade, Chief Technology Officer, Ressort IV (Ludwigshafen and Singapore): Monomers; Performance Materials; Petrochemicals; Intermediates; Group Research; Greater China; South & East Asia, ASEAN & Australia/New Zealand; Mega Projects Asia

  • Anup Kothari, Ressort VI: Catalysts; Coatings; Dispersions & Resins; Performance Chemicals
