BASF on the capital market

Dividend proposal of EUR 2.25 per share

As part of its new strategy, BASF continues to offer its shareholders an attractive dividend yield. In the medium term, we are committed to keeping the overall distribution to shareholders at least at prior-year levels through a combination of dividends and share buybacks. We have set ourselves the target of distributing at least €12 billion to shareholders from 2025 to 2028. Specifically, we strive to pay out a dividend of at least €2.25 per share annually or distribute around €2 billion per year to our shareholders. The proposed dividend for the 2024 business year is consequently €2.25 per share.

Broad base of international shareholders

With over 900,000 shareholders, BASF is one of the largest publicly owned companies with a high free float. An analysis of the shareholder structure carried out at the end of 2023 showed that, at around 18% of share capital, the United States and Canada made up the largest regional group of institutional investors. Institutional investors from Germany accounted for 4%. Institutional investors from the United Kingdom and Ireland hold 8% of BASF shares, while investors from the rest of Europe hold a further 10% of capital. Approximately 47% of the company’s share capital is held by private investors, nearly all of whom reside in Germany. BASF is therefore one of the DAX 40 companies with the largest percentage of private shareholders.

Creating Chemistry magazine

BASF’s sustainability magazine provides insights into key global challenges and describes how chemistry helps to meet them through innovation.

The new issue is dedicated to the megatrend of mobility and looks at approaches from around the world that are breaking new ground. Stefan Gössling, Professor of Sustainable Tourism and Mobility at Linné University in Sweden, reports on the risks and opportunities of a mobile society. Much depends on what we decide to do with our cars in the future. If we were to give preference to bicycles, buses and trains, this would create open spaces in cities that could be redesigned. Our infographic provides an impression about this.
