UN Sustainable Development Goals
At the UN summit in September 2015 the United Nations have officially announced the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They build on and succeed the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). BASF contributes to a sustainable future with its innovations. We support the United Nations in the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which create the framework for sustainable business practices at the economic, social and environmental levels.
How BASF contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Fight poverty and hunger, water availability, and topics such as energy and climate change: The 17 universal and overarching SDGs succeed the UN Millennium Development Goals that have been adopted by then 189 UN member states in the year 2000.
In drafting these development goals, the United Nations worked together with nongovernmental organizations, international trade associations, employee representatives, scientists, policymakers and industry.
BASF welcomes the SDGs and supports the UN in making our planet more sustainable. BASF was actively involved in the development of the SDGs as a member of working groups. Especially the SDGs Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Clean Water and Sanitation, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Sustainable Cities and Communities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life on Land and Partnerships for the Goals are of great importance to BASF.
Moreover, the BASF Stiftung actively contributes to achieving the SDGs. Worldwide more than 60 projects, initiatives as well as activities in the field of disaster relief contribute to the SDGs in many different ways. Each of the projects add to a long-term improvement in the living conditions of disadvantaged people, especially children and youth.
