BASF at the German National Garden Show 2023 in Mannheim

BASF is a partner of the German National Garden Show (“BUGA 23”= short for “Bundesgartenschau 2023”), which will take place from April 14 to October 8, 2023 in Mannheim. We are happy to show our commitment to the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region in this way and we are pleased to be part of the major event around the socially relevant topics of climate, environment, energy and food security.

About BASF's Presence

Visit us on site in the Spinelli Park! Children and adults are invited to discover our interactive exhibition, the “BASF Erlebnisraum”, in the exhibition hall “U-Halle”. Let's find answers together to questions that move us all: For example, how can we recycle waste even better, use renewable resources or move around in a more climate-friendly way? Our hands-on exhibits show how we can become active for sustainability in our everyday lives and where solutions from technology and science already support us today.

Events, tickets and more information (in German)

As part of the BUGA 23: Campus program, students (grade 5-10) will have the opportunity to participate in experimental workshops with their whole class. The workshops focus on renewable energies and future-proof apprenticeships. Families with children (age 6-12) can look forward to a diverse range of experiments on the topic of climate.

At the joint outdoor area, BASF and John Deere show how farmers can operate more sustainably today and in the future, and how they can meet the challenges of a changing climate. Visit our sunflower and wheat fields but also our flower strips up close and experience modern varieties, innovative crop protection and digital agricultural technologies in action. The youngest visitors can go on a rally and test their knowledge about busy bees, smart tractors and helping drones.

“It is important for us to show people that chemistry is part of the solution on the way towards a sustainable and climate-neutral future. To this end, we want to engage in the social dialog, encourage ideas, but above all listen to what moves people from Germany and our region."

Dr. Melanie Maas-Brunner

Member of the Board of Executive Directors and patron of BASF’s involvement with BUGA 23

About BUGA 23

The National Garden Show takes place in German cities every two years and was last hosted in Mannheim in 1975 – at that time with a record of over eight million visitors. This year's host, the city of Mannheim, sets the focus of the major event on tradition and historical significance, but more importantly, on a future perspective: climate, environment, energy and food security are the key topics of BUGA 23 and are reflected in all events and exhibitions on site under the motto "Best Prospects". More than two million visitors from all over Germany and neighboring countries are expected over the entire period. For the city of Mannheim, the National Garden Show symbolizes a development far beyond the major event due to the creation of a fresh air corridor. With its program of over 5,000 events, BUGA 23 is more than just a flower show: It is a major event for sustainability and urban development and a platform for exchange and new ideas.

BASF is a Partner of BUGA 23 and the SDG Gardens

As a co-founder of the UN Global Compact, BASF supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). We are convinced that these Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) need to be seen in their interdependencies. The SDG gardens provide good access to these complex interdependencies – in a refreshingly emotional, artistic way. They show why there is an urgent need for action to achieve these goals. We are, therefore, pleased to be a partner of BUGA 23 and the SDG gardens.
