Sustainability

The first BASF Climathon

We are all looking for answers to challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity and population growth. At the same time, sustainability is increasingly becoming a business driver. Together we can develop the best solutions - that's why BASF is launching its first Climathon on November 13, 2020.

The BASF Climathon

The Climathon brings together sustainability and digitization: A hackathon in which we want to find digital solutions for sustainability issues. Creativity, cooperation and unconventional thinking are required. People who have never worked together before will dedicate themselves to their topic with full commitment. For one day, eleven teams of BASF employees and IT partners will tackle eleven challenges, discuss and design possible solutions and finally present their approach to the jury. The best solutions win and the teams will further develop their solution in the next phase.

The Challenges

The Climathon team has selected eleven questions from a wealth of suggestions from the business, some of them from our Climathon partners, for each of which a team of business and IT experts will develop digital solutions. The interdisciplinary challenges take up topics that fit in with BASF's strategy and open up future perspectives. In terms of content, the aim is to set up digital services, identify risks and potential, develop data models for decision-making or develop playful solutions to raise each individual's awareness of how to make BASF more sustainable and create value for economy, environment and society.

The goal

On the Climathon day, the teams will develop an idea and a prototype for their challenge. They present this model to the BASF jury. The best ideas will proceed to the next phase.
