BASF solution keeps golf course pathways up to par

  • Elastopave® eases water drainage, keeps golf course pathways looking attractive
  • Installed at golf course for first time in Australia; saves time and resources for maintenance teams
  • Unique BASF polymer composite system can also be used for paving on driveways, gardens, and public spaces

Melbourne, Australia – April 3, 2017 – The Settlers Run Golf and Country Club will keep its cart pathways clear, dry and looking great thanks to Elastopave®, a polyurethane binder system from BASF.

The country club, a Greg Norman designed golf course in Melbourne, is the first in Australia to install Elastopave. The innovative, easy-to-apply and low-maintenance pavement solution helps reduce flooding and erosion, decreasing maintenance costs. With its wide range of color options, it is also an affordable way to enhance the attractiveness of any golf course.

“We are extremely impressed with the initial results and have received good feedback from our members since the installation. The porous covering layer prevents puddles, meaning less damage to the cart path, lower maintenance costs and shorter downtimes. All we have to do is give it a quick hose-down when it needs cleaning,” said Stuart Graham, Golf Course Superintendent of Settlers Run Golf and Country Club.

Elastopave is a polymer composite which is mixed with gravel or stones. The high proportion of stones of various sizes creates more interconnected cavities than concrete or tar, meaning greater water-permeability. Public spaces paved with Elastopave can absorb an estimated 4,000 liters of water per hour per square meter.

“Elastopave is an efficient and durable system that offers a variety of design possibilities: the aggregate can be varied to blend into the immediate surroundings, matching the unique design of each golf course,” said Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President, Performance Materials Asia Pacific, BASF.

A live demonstration was held at the Victorian Golf Course Superintendents Association (VGCSA) today to demonstrate the features and benefits of Elastopave.

Elastopave has proven its durability and performance in locations around the world. At Munich’s Giesinger train station, 3,000 square metres in front of the station is coated with Elastopave, easing drainage during periods of heavy rainfall. Elastopave was also recently installed in Hangzhou, China, along the famous West Lake where the G20 Summit was held in September 2016.

Elastopave can additionally be used for other surfaces such as driveways and gardens. It is quick and simple to install and requires only simple, readily-available equipment. It can be subjected to weight again after only twelve hours, resulting in very short down time.
