Big Three ‘quality trifecta’ in 2013 for BASF Cellasto

WYANDOTTE, MI, October 8, 2013 -- On Tuesday, October 1, BASF Corporation’s Cellasto® team was presented with the 2013 Supplier Quality Excellence Award from General Motors.  This is the third supplier quality recognition earned by Cellasto this year. Cellasto was also recognized by Ford Motor Company with the Q1 Preferred Quality Award and by the Chrysler Group with the Supplier of the Year and Perfect Quality performance status earlier this year.

The General Motors 2013 Supplier Quality Excellence Award is awarded to suppliers who demonstrate the highest levels of quality and performance, including zero plant disruptions and no late deliveries or quality issues over the past 12 months.  Only 8% of GM’s suppliers were recognized in 2013.

Earlier this year, Chrysler Group held its third annual supplier awards ceremony where BASF was named Supplier of the Year for extraordinary performance in the sustainability and diversity supplier development categories.  BASF Cellasto achieved Perfect Quality performance at Chrysler, with a quality score of 100% for all 12 months in 2012.

In addition, BASF Cellasto was awarded the Ford Q1 Preferred Quality Award which recognizes superior quality and delivery as well as the supplier’s ongoing implementation of an effective quality system.  Suppliers must initially achieve, and then maintain, a performance score of >800 points.  BASF’s Cellasto plant maintains a >1300 point status, positioning them as one of Ford’s top suppliers.

“Recognition of outstanding supplier quality from General Motors, Chrysler and Ford is a “quality trifecta” for Cellasto,” said David Grimes, BASF Performance Materials Business Director.  “The team has done a lot to improve quality systems and operations over the past several years.  The best recognition that we can ever expect is from our customers, and these awards are validation that we are making significant progress.”
