BASF in Turkey
Approximately 800 people are employed in BASF’s offices and production centers in different cities of Turkey. The headquarters of BASF Turkey is located in Istanbul and manages also a total of 78 countries including the Russıa, Turkic Republics, Middle East and Africa.
BASF, which carried out its first sale in Turkey in 1880, has a history of 138 years and it continues to provide products to many different industrial sectors. BASF has been contributing to Turkish economy since the foundation of the Republic. BASF got into a partnership with Sumerbank in 1969 with the aim of providing products to primary industrial sectors such as textile, paper, paint and leather. In 1970, BASF operations in BASF’s first factory in Gebze started. The factory manufactured leather, detergent and construction chemicals. Thanks to the active operations of this factory, BASF began to produce its products, which comply with world standards, in Turkey, and helped many industries to improve and contributed to Turkish economy. BASF’s partnership with Sumerbank continued until 2000, when BASF AG acquired all the shares from Sumerbank Holding.
BASF Turkey still carries out its operations with a total of six production facilities. Its headquarters is located in Icerenkoy, Istanbul and it has many offices in other cities. Sales of the products are grouped under four main segments: Chemical, Functional Materials and Solutions, Performance Products and Agricultural Solutions. BASF provides services to many industrial sectors including automobile, electric and electronics, construction, detergent, cleaning, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, animal feed, agriculture and food.
Group companies called BASF Construction Chemicals, BASF Coatings and BASF Polyurethane, all of which operated in Turkey under BASF, have been merged in September 2014 under BASF Türk Kimya San. ve Tic Ltd Şti.
