Panel One leads the way with new Glasurit 100 Line
Sydney, Australia - December 17, 2020 - As one of Australia’s most highly awarded and recognised body shops and Sydney’s leading BMW repair specialists, the team at Panel One are again leading the way with the installation of BASF’s new waterborne basecoat system Glasurit 100 Line.
Kelvin Lau, Director, at Panel One and his team of industry leading technicians are no strangers when it comes to waterborne products, having made the switch for the first time in 2013.
“We were on the forefront, at the time I believe we were the second prestige shop in NSW to make the change to water-based,” Kelvin explained.
Well known across Sydney for their quality service and experience in prestige cars, it was a simple choice for the team to transition to Glasurit 100 Line – which is the most innovative and sustainable paint system in the industry thanks to its colour stability, robustness in application and environmental attributes.
“The Glasurit product is the best we can get in Australia right now. Our customers expect the best and Glasurit paint and product systems have been approved by leading car manufacturers worldwide” he said. “The early adoption of 100 Line is an investment into the future. By the time other shops have gone to 100 Line we will have used it for three years.”
While it’s not always easy being a trailblazer, Kelvin and his team from Panel One worked closely with the Glasurit team to build the BMW colour library and his team have also been impressed by what 100 Line has delivered to date.
“Glasurit has good primers, the undercoat system is very good, and the clear coat is the best I’ve seen. Matte paint is the hardest to match and I’d say the Glasurit matte paint system is one of the best on the market,” Kelvin added.
Mitchel Boyle, Technical Sales Representative for BASF Australia believes the attitude and commitment of the team at Panel One has been pivotal to the success of the installation, “Working with Kelvin and his painter Jim Zabaras was a great honor. They worked with myself and the BASF colour lab from the beginning to ensure we could provide them with the colour solutions they required in order to meet their customer needs,” said Mitchel, “Our approach is to always work closely with our customers to ensure we provide the support they need.”
Australia is one of the first markets in the world to introduce 100 Line in September as the appetite for the latest technology from customers like Panel One is so strong. Collaborating with Panel One has been instrumental to ensuring mutual success.
To Kelvin, even though the change isn’t always easy, it’s important to persist and that he’s proud of the efforts the team have contributed. “Putting in a new paint system is like a new relationship and the first weeks will be rough. Everything is an investment, and every time you need to have a learning curve. Embrace it - don’t fight it,” said Kelvin.
“Our team helped BASF build up a strong library of BMW colours which is still a work in progress. Around 90% of BMW colours are now matched. The team from Glasurit have been very helpful. They went through the workshop and spoke to the team. I can’t complain and it’s been great service,” he added.
