A warm welcome to our greeting floor. It is nice to have you here. We would like to reward your curiosity. With surprising facts. With vivid examples. And with a lot of background information. A highlight of the floor: The "City of the Future" presents upcoming global challenges that BASF is already dealing with today.
Tradition and innovation: BASF connects them like practically no other company. From its beginnings as a dye factory, through the plastics era, on to becoming a transnational enterprise. A highlight of the floor: In our "Open Book" we present important events and milestones from BASF’s history from 1865 to the present day in an exciting manner. BASF has its history books open for all visitors and presents them interactively on large touchscreens using a multimedia approach.
Climate change is the greatest challenge of our time. BASF is leading the way towards climate neutrality in the chemical industry: new technologies powered by green electricity reduce CO2 emissions for our products. Renewable and recycled raw materials keep valuable feedstocks inside the circular economy so they can become new products again and again. Find out how BASF aims to achieve net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.
Something special is hidden in our "treasure chamber": With over 70 historic exhibits, it shows the highlights of BASF’s history. From ammonia synthesis through color samples to historic advertisements – marvel at the diversity of the company. A highlight of the floor: The Original painting from Robert Stieler from 1881. It is the oldest surviving depiction of the works and shows BASF.
Diapers, cookies, perfume: just a few examples by means of which we show you how often chemistry plays a role in everyday life. We also put your senses to the test. Can you distinguish between artificial and natural colors, materials and aromas? Give it a try. A highlight of the floor: The "Periodic table of elements" contains 103 elements. What do chemical elements look like under a microscope? What are they used for? Who discovered them and what properties do they typically exhibit?
In the year 2050 about 10 billion people will live on earth. This raises many issues: How can we feed them all? What preoccupies farmers? And how long does it take to develop a new plant protection product? Come to our “round table” and follow the interactive and multimedia chat between BASF employees, farmers and consumers about “health and nutrition”.
3D-printing is an upcoming technology for BASF which allows for completely new design options, ranging from spare parts for cars to prosthetic legs. We offer materials for every important 3D-printing technique, from polymers to metals. See for yourself what can be created with this innovative method in our 3D-printer!
Digitalization is one of the challenges of our time. But what does this entail for BASF? Our new highlight exhibit on digitalization shows with four examples how digitalization changes our everyday work. Amongst other things, you can activate a model of our supercomputer Quriosity and learn more about what it does and how it supports research. The datatelescope lets you see where we use digitalization at our Ludwigshafen site. Round off your visit to BASF’s digital world with a picture at the photo station.
