The initial phase of BASF Guangdong Verbund site achieved 500,000 safe working hours
BASF today celebrated for achieving consecutive 500,000 safe working hours for its initial phase of Guangdong Verbund site in Zhanjiang. This came as another substantial progress since its start of piling on May 30, 2020.
“At BASF, we value the health and safety of people above all else. We are dedicated to our corporate commitment that we produce safely for people and the environment,” said Gong Yi Hong, Vice President, Senior Project New Verbund Site China – Integrated Project Management, BASF. “The progress today is a result of great teamwork from all team members, fellow contractors as well as strong support from local government. We are confident to continue extending our safe working hours achievement with the joint efforts from all.”
In November 2019, BASF commenced preparations to build the first plants of its new smart Verbund site project in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province. Announced in July 2018, the project would be BASF’s largest investment with around US$10 billion upon completion and would be operated under the sole responsibility of BASF. The site would ultimately be the third-largest BASF site worldwide, following Ludwigshafen, Germany, and Antwerp, Belgium. The first plants will produce engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) with the first plant to be operational by 2022 to serve the increasing needs of various growth industries in South China and throughout Asia.
