BASF’s new Uvinul® A Plus production plant in Jinshan has come on full stream

  • Increased capacity for high-quality UVA filters included in sunscreen formulations
  • The investment underlines BASF’s commitment and further strengthens its regional footprint in the Asia-Pacific region

Hong Kong, China – September 27, 2023
– BASF Care Chemicals’ new Uvinul® A Plus production in Jinshan, China, has now come on full stream. With the newly designed plant, the company expands its production base in Asia to meet the rising demand for modern UV filters globally.

“BASF offers a broad range of high-performance personal care ingredients and has deep expertise in developing value-adding, innovative solutions. The state-of-the-art facility in Jinshan produces high-quality UVA filters included in the sunscreen formulations. This investment underlines BASF’s commitment to the Personal Care arena and to our customers in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Agus Ciputra, Senior Vice President Care Chemicals, BASF Asia Pacific.

“With the expansion of the production capacity for specialty UV filters, we can now speed up the delivery time to fulfil increasing market demands in the region, continuously improve supply security while maintaining high manufacturing standards,” said Viju Jose, Vice President Personal Care Solutions, BASF Asia Pacific. “Our site in Jinshan has been granted with multiple certifications like European Federation for Cosmetic Ingredients Good Manufacturing Practice (EFfCI GMP) and Roundtable Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). It also produces a broad portfolio of emollients, waxes and specialty cosurfactants for the personal care industry.”

In Asia, BASF already manufactures a broad portfolio of UV filters at the Care Chemicals production site in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. With this investment, BASF has further expanded its production footprint of its modern UV filter portfolio in the Asia-Pacific region.

Uvinul® A Plus is one of the few photostable UVA filters available in the market today that reliably filters the sun’s harmful UVA rays and provides protection from free radicals and skin damage. The oil-soluble granule form offers excellent formulation flexibility, is free of preservatives and highly efficient at low concentration. Uvinul® A Plus is ideal for long-lasting sun care and skin care with anti-aging efficacy.
