Packaging

BASF offers dispersions for a broad range of packaging applications. Be it in the field of glossy film lamination, film to film lamination, or a functional coating, BASF offers outstanding products covering the different packaging industries` needs in all performance grades

Film to Film Lamination

Flexible packaging such as stand-up pouches is becoming increasingly important. These packages consist of several layers of film to ensure that the desired requirements such as good mechanical stability, good printability or light impermeability can be met. It is only due to adhesives that these various films can be combined to form a multi-layer packaging. Hence, they play a decisive role when it comes to developing and manufacturing packaging.

As a leading supplier of adhesive raw materials, BASF offers the packaging industry new possibilities and opportunities with its aqueous dispersions and additives. Water-based adhesives are an environmentally friendly and efficient alternative to solvent-based and solvent-free adhesives that have been used up to now.

Our dispersions are free from toxic substances and are approved for indirect food contact. In addition, they allow the immediate further processing of laminates. Due to this fact, converters can reduce the time span between incoming orders and delivery to one day, significantly decrease their stock and focus on their core competencies.

Apart from intensive technical support, we offer our customers the opportunity to benefit from our innovative coating center. We have coating/laminating machines both at laboratory as well as at pilot-scale level, which are both especially suited for packaging applications. Where we develop and test dispersions specifically for our customers.

Glossy Film Lamination

Glossy film lamination is the most sophisticated way of refining printed products. With the help of this technology, a plastic film is laminated onto printed cartons with an adhesive. This procedure increases the appeal and shine of the printed product. At the same time, it protects printed surfaces from abrasion and ensures better tear resistance. Products that feature glossy film lamination are focused on the premium range requirements. Typical applications are book spines, glossy brochures and perfume boxes.
