Joint News Release: Responsible Lithium Partnership is concluding with success: Multi-Stakeholder Roundtable continues its work as a foundation

The Multi-Stakeholder Roundtable (Mesa Multiactor) has achieved its key objective and created a model of collaboration in the Salar de Atacama. As of February 2025, the Roundtable will continue its work as an independent foundation with a focus on water resource management in the Salar, as water scarcity remains a central issue in Salar’s sensitive ecosystem. The newly established format of the Mesa Multiactor provides a vehicle for securing independent funding in the future.
BASF investiert am Standort Ludwigshafen einen mittleren zweistelligen Millionenbetrag in eine neue Alkoholate-Anlage zur Herstellung von Natriummethylat und Kaliummethylat, zwei wichtigen Chemikalien für die Herstellung von Biodiesel sowie von Produkten in Pharmazie und Pflanzenschutz. Die neue Anlage wird mit modernster Technologie die bestehende Produktionsanlage ersetzen und soll in der zweiten Jahreshälfte 2027 in Betrieb gehen.

BASF invests in new alcoholates plant in Ludwigshafen

BASF is investing a mid-double-digit million-euro amount in a new alcoholates plant at its site in Ludwigshafen, Germany. The plant will produce sodium methylate and potassium methylate, two important chemicals used for the production of biodiesel and for pharmaceutical and agricultural applications. Utilizing state-of-the-art technology, the new plant will replace the existing production facility in Ludwigshafen and is expected to start up in the second half of 2027.
The decorative paints business is a B2C business with a wide portfolio of paints, paint preparation products and digital solutions that are mainly sold under the Suvinil brand.

BASF to sell Brazilian decorative paints business to Sherwin-Williams

BASF and Sherwin-Williams have signed an agreement on the sale of the Brazilian decorative paints business, which is part of BASF’s Coatings division. The purchase price on a cash and debt-free basis is $1.15 billion. The transaction is structured as a share deal and includes the production sites in Demarchi and Jaboatão, related contracts, the Suvinil and Glasu! brands, and the around 1,000 employees. The divestiture is expected to close in the second half of 2025, subject to the approval of the relevant competition authorities.

Chemetall runs its Blackman Township production facility in the USA entirely on renewable electricity

The Surface Treatment global business unit of BASF’s Coatings division, operating under the Chemetall brand, has switched its electricity supply for its production site Blackman Township in Jackson County, Michigan, USA, to 100% renewable electricity*. The energy provided by the partner BASF Renewable Energy is generated by a subset of renewable resources, including solar and wind, resulting in an approximate reduction of 950 tons of CO2 emissions** in 2025.
